2015 China Energy Focus: A Nuclear Energy Report is Released in the United States

Xinhua News Agency, Washington, July 15, by reporter Zheng Qihang and Gao Pan: China Energy Fund Committee (CEFC) issued a report of "2015 China Energy Focus: Nuclear Energy" on July 15 in Washington, pointing out a great significance of nuclear power for China’s energy conservation and emission reduction as well as economic development.

One of the report authors and President of Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Huang Xiaoyong said that the global nuclear power industry tended to pick up in 2015. By the end of 2015, China had have 24 nuclear power units in construction, ranking the first in the world that accounted for more than one-third of the world's nuclear power plant under construction.

Huang Xiaoyong said actively, steadily developing nuclear power in China is still a necessary and realistic option, from the perspective of protecting environment, realizing emission reduction, ensuring energy and economic growth safety and promoting high-end equipment exports and other aspects.

Founder of U.S. Energy Security Commission Robert McFarlane said the report comprehensively introduces the opportunities and challenges that China faces in its development of nuclear power. He called on both countries to strengthen cooperation in nuclear power.

The editor of the report and Secretary-General of China Energy Fund Committee He Zhiping hopes the report will help countries’ nuclear energy experts, policy makers and stakeholders understand the nuclear energy development in China.

As a private think tank, China Energy Fund Committee registers in Hong Kong, which is committed to promoting global energy cooperation and cultural exchanges. In 2013 and 2015, it released two reports on China’s development in natural gas and clean coal.
