Jiang Xipei wore the eyepiece and picked up a tiny gear carefully by tweezers to put it into the fingernail-sized dial plate. Then he turned the foil back to place, closed the cover, winded the watch and wiped it up. Finally he gave the watch back to customer and wiped the sweat on his forehead. It was the second customer of Jiang Xipei after he worked as an apprentice for 50 days.
Jiang Xipei’s second brother told him that “watchmaker is a good profession to make a living.” Therefore, after failing the university entrance examination, Jiang Xipei went to watchmaker’s shop aside West Lake in 1980 and became an apprentice of watchmaker. The young Jiang Xipei had a big dream of building a house, getting married and saving money of RMB 50,000. However, the first words of Jiang Xipei’s master were to “leave the dream alone and devote yourself to learning skills.” Jiang Xipei’s master did not explain these words, and Jiang Xipei was too tired to ask his master about the meaning of these words due to the hard work of learning and practicing.
Although it made young Jiang Xipei impatient in the course of practicing the repair of tiny movement and tiny gears of watch, the emulative young man completed the delicate work in patience, cultivating the spirit of craftsman of careful and serious. After finishing his apprenticeship, Jiang Xipei ran a small shop aside West Lake. Adhering to ancestral lessons of being honest and surefooted, Jiang Xipei received good reputations and won more and more customers, receiving three apprentices and saving RMB 50,000 within a year. Jiang Xipei had saved over RMB 200,000 in five years and faced the next choice in his life.
Wanyuanhu, referring to people with an annual income of RMB 10,000, was a name to be proud of in China in 1980s. After becoming a Wanyuanhu, Jiang Xipei achieved his life goal, and as a son of farmer, he decided to help poor fellow citizens in his hometown. In 1985, Jiang Xipei came back to his hometown with savings of over RMB 200,000 and established YixingFandao Instrument and Meters Factory, the predecessor of Far East Holding Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Far East).
It is always hard to start a business. During the early period of entrepreneurship, the uncertain market situation and the immature technology brought many setbacks to Jiang Xipei’s career. After experiencing several failures, Jiang Xipei spent almost all savings, and his relatives and friends were all tired of the entrepreneurship. However, Jiang Xipei did not give up and noticed the bright future of cable industry. In 1990, holding the determination of fighting to win or die, Jiang Xipei raised RMB 1.8 million and devoted to the transformation from instrument factory to cable factory with 28 relatives and friends.
Now Far East’s staff being neatly dressed operates the equipment skillfully in the bright workshop to monitor the running state of production equipment, alarm the equipment trouble and conduct diagnostic analysis of the trouble and achieve the integration of MES and ERP.
