On November 3, a symposium for analyzing development of the lithium-ion battery industry of Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Smarter Energy”; stock code: 600869) was convened at the Wisdom School of the Far East University. Specially-invited industry experts, including Zhong Shengwen, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, and Chief Expert of the major scientific and technological project of the power battery in Jiangxi, Gao Xiaobing, Assistant Dean of Gaogong Industry Research Institute (GGII) and Director of the Lithium-Ion Battery Research Institute of GGII, and Gong Yongfeng, Chief Analyst and Director of CITIC Securities, had in-depth interpretations and exchanges in three aspects of the general situation and trend of development of lithium-ion battery new energy vehicle industry, the development trend, challenges and countermeasures of power lithium-ion batteries, and the recycling of power batteries for new-energy vehicles in China.
The senior management staff of the Group and subsidiaries, including Jiang Xipei, Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Party Committee Secretary of Far East Holding Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Far East Holding Group), Zhang Xilan, an investor, Vice Chairman of Board of Directors and CEO of Far East Holding Group, and Jiang Huajun, an investor, Vice President and CEO of Smarter Energy, attended the symposium.
The scene of symposium
Wang Zheng chairs this symposium
Wang Zheng, an investor, Director and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Smarter Energy, chaired this symposium, and pointed out that the emerging technology—a combination of new energy vehicles and battery energy storage marked by the power battery had sprung up, which was epoch-making. It is not only the vane of economic transformation of China and the world, but also an opportunity for the rise of emerging industries in China. New energy vehicles and energy storage business has become an important business sector to improve the achievement of smart energy. Thus to grasp the development trend of the lithium-ion battery industry is significant for Smarter Energy.
Gao Xiaobing interprets the general situation and trend of development of lithium-ion battery new energy vehicle industry in China
Gao Xiaobing, focusing on the development of the lithium-ion new energy vehicles market, made a detailed interpretation. He pointed out that in the third quarter of 2017, there were totally 33 investment and expansion projects related to the power battery, with a total investment of over RMB 72.6 billion, of which the highest independent investment reached RMB 19.5 billion. In the severe competition context, he expected that by 2020, 10-20 of nearly 200 enterprises with the abilities of market reaction, product quality, capital strength, technological R & D and supporting supply chain will survive and dominate the industry.
Zhong Shengwen analyzes resources distribution and development trend of raw materials for lithium-ion batteries
Zhong Shengwen, from the perspective of the resource analysis on three main cathode materials of lithium-ion batteries—lithium, nickel, and cobalt, expounded an opinion that with the main development trend—“the war for resources where an enterprise that owns the lithium, it can dominate the market”—of the power lithium-ion battery industry in the future, the new energy enterprise which does well in integrating the chain and resources will make long-run development. Focusing on development situation where opportunities and challenges coexist in the lithium-ion industry, he also proposed the following four countermeasures. The priority to enhancing the confidence of the enterprise is to improve and innovate technology and product quality which are ensured by the construction of the talent team and platform. The only way for enterprises to become stronger and larger is the growth with production automation and large scale. Cost reduction is an important means to ensure and expand market share. The in-depth cooperation and integration among industrial chains can help the development of the industry.
Gong Yongfeng interprets the prospects of recycling power batteries for new energy vehicles
According to the current situation where new energy vehicles has increased tremendously since 2014, with the soaring cost of new energy battery materials, Gong Yongfeng stressed that recycling spent lithium-ion batteries can not only recreate resources value, but also effectively lower the cost of energy storage through echelon using to open up the growth space of energy storage. As a new energy vehicle will be changed if the performance of its battery drops to 80%, this part of retired vehicle batteries can be recycled in echelon into other fields such as business and household energy storage, eventually to the lithium-ion battery recycling market.
Participating leaders and experts have an in-depth exchange on the interpretation.
Wang Zheng expressed, since this year, Smarter Energy, based on the capacity of 1.2 million 18650 batteries per day, has expanded production capacity to successively start the construction of both the “R & D and industrialization project with the annual output of 3GWh high-energy-density power energy storage lithium-ion battery” and the 12GWh lithium-ion battery project of Far East Foster New Energy Jiangsu Co., Ltd. It has also rolled out the strategic layout of the lithium-ion battery in an all-round way, through measures of strengthening technology R & D, diversifying products and expanding the upstream industry chain. Smarter Energy has fully realized opportunities and priorities in the development process of the lithium-ion battery from experts’ interpretations which defined direction for further strategic layout, condensed power and played a leading role in achieving leaping development of the enterprise in the future.
