Jiang Xipei Exchanged with Canada Research Chair Dr.Chen Zhongwei on Energy Network’s Energy Storage

On May 28, Dr. Chen Zhongwei, Vice-Chairman of International Electrochemical Energy Institute, Canada Research Chair, Director of Applicable Nanomaterials and Clean Energy laboratory at University of Waterloo in Canada, founder and CTO of Wattech Power Inc., an energy technology company at University of Waterloo, visited Far East for exchange, together with Mr. Allen Sun, Co-founder and CEO of Wattech Power Inc. They were received by Chairman of the Board and CEO of Far East holding Group Jiang Xipei; director and CEO of Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (abbreviation: Smarter Energy; stock code: 600869) Jiang Huajun; investor, supervisor and Chief Operating Officer Chen Jing.

Dr. Chen made an academic presentation entitled "Advanced High Energy Lithium-ion Batteries and Zinc-air Batteries", showing the series of achievements made by his research team in recent years in the field of electrochemical energy including fuel batteries, lithium batteries and metal-air batteries. He also introduced in details the latest progress of silicon-based high-energy lithium-ion batteries and nano bifunctional catalysts in rechargeable zinc-air batteries.

Dr. Chen introduced the large-scale megawatt-level zinc-air flow energy storage technology developed by his team, which is known as currently the most cost-effective electrochemical energy storage technology worldwide, with the manufacturing costs controlled within US$80/kwh, the efficiency above 80%, and the designed life of service reaching 10 to 20 years. Now it has entered a small-scale engineering demonstration stage. This technology is particularly suitable for a commercial storage of new renewable energies (such as solar and wind power). Its excellent cost performance makes large-scale smarter grid energy storage become possible, which may generate revenues through a regulation of electricity at peak and valley.

Jiang Xipei expressed appreciation for the breakthroughs made by Dr. Chen Zhongwei in zinc-air flow energy storage technology. He pointed out that in the global energy network, the future’s energy storage market is extremely broad. Smarter Energy pays a close attention to energy network’s energy storage technology, and in 2015 succeeded the buyout of Far East First New Energy Co., Ltd., with the layout focusing on new energy power battery and energy storage base station. Dr. Chen’s presentation is very enlightening, providing a new idea to energy storage by new energy batteries. He hopes to carry out in-depth collaboration with the team of Dr. Chen and energy technology companies at University of Waterloo in large-scale energy storage.

Jiang Huajun, Chen Jing and other leaders discussed with the visiting guests on the issues such as prospects of zinc-air flow energy storage technology, energy storage market size in future, and current mainstream energy storage technologies.

Under his leadership, Dr. Chen’s research team has achieved a series of fruitful results in silicon lithium batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, flow storage technology, nanomaterials and grapheme application.
