Strategy determines survival, and execution determines profit

    On November 4, the phase III of Executive Workshop of Far East Holding Group was held in Longwan Life Home in the form of sand table exercise. Lin Hai, General Manager of Right Way, a senior experiential teaching expert, and a forerunner of “flipped classroom” training mode, was invited to guide directors, supervisors, and senior executives of the group to conduct strategic sand table simulation, based around the theme of “operation consciousness and strategic decision-making”.

    36 directors, supervisors, and senior executives of the group were invited to attend the sand table exercise, including Zhang Xilan, an investor, Vice Chairperson of Board of Directors and CEO of Far East Holding Group, Jiang Huajun, an investor, Vice President and CEO of Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Smarter Energy; stock code: 600869), Chen Biao, CEO of Jiangsu Luye Agrochemicals Co., Ltd., Sun Lu, an investor, Director and General Manager of Far East Trading Pay Network Co., Ltd., Huang Qingfeng, an investor, and CEO of Far East Material Trading Center Co., Ltd., and Wu Songjian, General Manager of Far East First New Energy Co., Ltd. Zhou Dongjiao, an investor, CHO of the group, and Executive Headmaster of Far East University, presided over the activity.

    Zhou Dongjiao denoted that in 2017, the group has systematically designed and implemented several innovative training programs. This time through the sand table exercise, they would stimulate business management and market competition, analyze the gains and losses of strategies, sort out management ideas, and efficiently enhance overall management quality through continuous improvement. Strategic consciousness is quite necessary and significant for senior executives present since Smarter Energy is in overall transformation and development.

    Lin Hai pointed out that in the course themed by operation consciousness and strategic decision-making, the core content was “begin with the end in mind”, and two main lines were “strategy determines survival, and execution determines profit”. Only by making clear the strategic objectives and status quo can we choose correct path; only by conducting integration crossing departments and business forms can we really achieve group’s strategic goal of RMB 100 billion.

Strategic sand table simulation

    The strategic sand table simulation was set in a complex external market. The directors, supervisors, and senior executives present were randomly divided into 3 groups and 9 simulated companies for PK. Confronted with an enterprise with complete production, finance, marketing and HR departments, they had to constantly set stage goals around their long-range goals in the 4 years of operation and management, coordinate different departments based on the objective system, formulate reasonable strategies, and transform them into coordinated actions among different departments through execution. Through four rounds of real-time business competition, all executives benefited a lot. At last, First New Energy Co., Ltd., led by Huang Jieping (an investor, Chairman of Supervision Board of the group, and Senior Advisor of Smarter Energy), became the winner in 9 simulated companies.

    Sand table exercises, also known as sand table simulation training and sand table deduction, are derived from the war sand table simulation in western military history. During an exercise, students are guided into a simulated competitive industry. They are divided into different groups to establish several simulated companies, and then, with the aid of visual sand table tools, simulate and practice business management and market competition, thus realizing what business decision-making is really about.

    In order to respond to the call of “adhering to coordinated development and using resources fully and well to promote integration”, and co-ordinate the human, capital and project resources, the Far East Executive Workshop designs such projects as physical coordination, cultural coordination and wisdom coordination, to promote work of senior executives and cultural exchanges, strengthen the capacity of holding subsidiaries in coordinated management, share resources, and increase value through coordination.
